Pathophysiology of Osteomyelitis/ Musculoskeletal disorders/Bone marrow disease. Pathophysiology of Osteomyelitis? Musculoskeletal disorders? Bone marrow disease.Osteomyelitis is an acute or chronic inflammatory bone infection, most commonly caused by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria spreading via the bloodstream, adjacent tissue, or direct contamination. Symptoms include localized pain, swelling, redness, warmth, and fever. Risk factors include diabetes, poor circulation, recent trauma, or surgery. Treatment involves long-term antibiotics (4–6+ weeks), often combined with surgery to remove infected bone. While prompt treatment usually clears the infection, chronic cases can recur. 📝Key Aspects of Osteomyelitis Main Causes: Primarily bacterial (notably Staphylococcus aureus), though fungi and mycobacteria can cause infection. It is often classified as hematogenous (via blood) or non-hematogenous (from direct contamination or adjacent tissue). 📝Prognosis: With early, aggressive treatment, the outlook is generally good. However, chronic cases may have a 30% or higher recurrence rate within 12 months, and in severe, untreatable cases, amputation may be required. ✏️ Types of Osteomyelitis Pyogenic and Non pyogenic ✏️ Causative agent Stephylococcus Aureus and Mycobacterium tuberculosis #Osteomyelitis, #Bone Infection #Orthopedics Orthopaedic Surgery, #Infectious Disease, #Radiology, #Wound Care #Chronic Osteomyelitis, #Acute Osteomyelitis, #Hyperbaric Medicine
