Recently a huge thunderstom passed through Summerville. Ferocious lightning flashed every few seconds with a few right over head sounding like shotgun blasts, the shockwaves shaking the entire house. The pounding rain flooded the streets and as I looked out the window, my mind went straight to fossil hunting. "I wonder if the creek will be any good?" I thought to myself. I haven't been going much in recent years because it just wasn't productive due to all the destruction caused by tour groups. As they mindlessly dug into the banks chasing profits, they threw the dirt and drink bottles into the stream. The banks collapsed and nothing could erode. I was sickened to the core and my only choice was to quit going. I basically forgot this site existed, but all the while nature did its thing, moving the piles one grain of sand at a time. Over a period of years, the mess cleaned itself up and my last visit was a happy surprise, so why not give it another go? This storm surely dropped enough rain. Maybe. I was undecided whether to go there or go install a toolbox that Diva gave me for my truck. I actually decided to install the truck case until I went out and looked in the back. Yuck! Like many other fossil hunters' vehicles, it was full of dirt, now mud due to the rain. I had no desire to lay back there in the filth so I hosed it out and while it dried, I decided to go to the creek. Turned out to be a great move!
