In this video, I share 10 tips on how to do a successful no spend January. 1. Embrace The Hibernation Month of January We are finally in the New Year and the last few months has been busy involving spending time with people and spend money. January for many people is the time of the year where we spend more time inside and do less social activities to recharge the batteries. Embrace this month by doing this challenge and focusing on accomplishing your goals. 2. Don’t Forget to Analyze Your Spending First An important step to doing this challenge is tracking and analyzing 3 months of your spending beforehand. Doing this allows you to compare your post no buy spending to help you know how much you save and lower your budget for future months. Doing forget to do this! 3. Stock Up On Things First A no buy challenge involves writing a list of things you're allowed to buy, allowed to replace, and not allowed to buy. You can cut out the allowed to replace list simply by stocking up on items beforehand so there is no need to replace them. 4. See The Benefits of Deprivation Doing a No Spend January involves deprivation, but this is not a bad thing. When you go without something for an extended period of time, you end up developing a deep sense of gratitude. See the benefits of going without! 5. Only Use Cash One way to make this challenge easier is to stop using credit and debit cards for the month and use cash. Cash makes you more intentional with your spending and causes you to spend less. 6. Focus on the Small Expenses Small expenses can become a big expense if you are not paying attention. It is important to be mindful when it comes to all of your purchases so the small expenses don't add up. 7. Do A Subscription Reset A subscription reset is when you unsubscribe from all subscriptions and resubscribe when desired. This can help you cut out waste from your budget. 8. Do The Pantry Challenge We all have food that sits in our pantry that we never eat. The Pantry Challenge is when you focus on eating your existing food before buying new food. This can help you save money and clean out your pantry. 9. Don’t Feel Pressured to Solve Your Life’s Problems In A Month Don't a No Spend January is not the solution to your financial problems, but it allows you to reset your spending habits and save a little bit of money. Don't feel pressured to solve all your problems in a month. 10. Don’t Be Too Extreme Many people set goals at the beginning of the new year and quit early on because they take their goals to the extreme.
