In this video, we demonstrate a Vent Enter Isolate Search (VEIS) maneuver during a simulation of a residential fire structure at the Virginia Beach Fire Academy. This is a required skill for all firefighters in our department, and we were given the opportunity to showcase our skills and decision-making in front of our instructors. The VEIS method is a critical component of our training, and it has been proven to save lives in real-world scenarios. One of our instructors, Master Firefighter Hope Scott, even won an award for saving a child's life using this very same procedure. Whenever there is a call that residents are trapped in a burning structure, the VEIS procedure is done step-by-step: Vent - Break the window down using a ladder or other tools. Enter - Enter the structure and locate the door to the room where the victim is trapped. Isolate - Close the door to isolate the room from the fire and smoke. Search - Search the room for the victim and safely evacuate them from the structure. During this training evolution, we used an actual house scheduled for demolition by the City of Virginia Beach. Our Master Firefighter, Steve Huey, guided us through the process and ensured that we were following the correct procedures to ensure everyone's safety.
