Get Bigger Faster by Training Smarter - https://athleanx.com/espanol Subscribe to this channel here - / athleanxespañol Neck exercises are done when people want to develop a bigger, stronger-looking neck or need it for a sport they play. MMA fighters, wrestlers, football players, and more will choose the neck bridge as their go-to option for improving their neck strength and volume. That said, I'm going to show you why those two exercises are possibly the worst thing you can do and what you should be doing instead. Neck exercises like the bridge are actually very effective at helping you develop your neck muscles. That said, they are also impacting the integrity of your spine and the ligaments within your neck when doing so. When you perform a forward or backward neck bridge, you are doing what is known as a closed-chain exercise. Closed-chain exercises are typically a great option that help you replicate the specific function of muscles and joints in a more realistic setting. However, the neck isn't one of those joints that functions in a closed-chain environment. Forcing it to do this is a recipe for disaster in the first place when it comes to neck exercises and training for neck development. As soon as you find yourself pushing your neck while moving into flexion, extension, or lateral bending, you're asking for big trouble. The compression caused by shifting all or part of your weight (I demonstrate how you can partially remove the load from your body weight using my hands in this video) is not something your neck is designed to handle. Add the fact that you'll be combining this compression with movement, and you're creating a scenario where the likelihood of bone-on-bone grinding in your neck increases. This, over time, can lead to the formation of bone spurs or osteophytes, which increase the likelihood of pinching one of your cervical nerve roots. When your neck nerve endings come into contact with a foreign body, you'll experience muscle weakness along the nerve's distribution or impaired sensation and pain in the dermatome associated with that nerve. This doesn't work well and is something you should avoid at all costs when choosing the exercises you'll be doing to build a bigger neck. The ATHLEAN-X Training System is a program that puts intelligent training first and helps you develop your neck without having to worry about damaging your spine. This 90-day plan, available at athleanxespanol.com, is the ultimate standard for athletes (young and old) looking to take their game and performance to their maximum potential without compromising longevity in the process.
