SAWHE Researcher Series- Session 4 | Vitamin D Deficiency | Dr Moonisah Usman Welcome to the SAWHE Researcher Series — a platform created by the South Asian Women in Higher Education (SAWHE) network to spotlight the work, journeys, and ideas of South Asian women researchers across disciplines. In this episode of the SAWHE Researcher Series, we are delighted to feature Dr Moonisah Usman is a Senior Lecturer in Critical Urban Health at the University of Westminster and Principal Investigator of the Westminster Genome Health Hub. Her work sits at the intersection of genomics, obesity, urban health, and health inequalities, integrating biomedical, architectural and social approaches to address disparities in urban communities. 🎙️ Session theme: This fascinating research explores how biological susceptibility, urban design, and social deprivation intersect to impact vitamin D levels, particularly in ethnically minoritised communities. Her work through the Westminster Genome Health Hub is a powerful example of transdisciplinary innovation tackling urban health inequalities. About the SAWHE Researcher Series: The series will be set intentionally as cross-disciplinary with talent spanning several UK universities, showcasing the depth, breadth, and impact of work happening across health, social sciences, arts, technology, education, and beyond, nationally! The aim is simple but powerful: 💪 To spotlight the incredible contributions of South Asian heritage women to research 💪 To create space for highlighting intellectual leadership and lived experience 💪 To build connection, collaboration, and community across UK institutions 💪 To enable opportunities for learning and development for the SAWHE network members Each session will centre the researcher, their journey, and the thinking behind their work as well as their research outputs, context, purpose, and impact. 🔔 Stay connected Subscribe to the channel for future SAWHE Researcher Series talks, panels, and conversations.
