VENICE, CA — Tuesday, May 20, 2025 — Firefighters from Los Angeles Fire Station 37 conducted a hands-on training operation Tuesday at a historic six-story structure located at 5 Rose Avenue, a building dating back to 1912. The exercise focused on critical laddering techniques, including the deployment and operation of a 35-foot extension ladder by a two-person team. The rooftop-access drill was designed to simulate conditions firefighters may encounter when responding to multi-story fires or rooftop emergencies. Crews also trained using an aerial ladder extended from the fire engine, reinforcing rapid vertical access capabilities that are essential during time-sensitive rescue or suppression operations. Laddering—a fundamental skill in firefighting—entails safely positioning ladders to provide quick ingress and egress for firefighters and potential evacuees. These types of drills are part of the department’s broader mission to ensure operational readiness and protect life and property across Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Fire Department responds to roughly 1,368 emergency calls daily, ranging from medical incidents and traffic collisions to structural fires and hazardous materials threats. The department operates with 3,510 sworn firefighters, 392 professional support personnel, and maintains 1,018 firefighters on duty at all times across 106 fire stations citywide. LAFD’s commitment to preparedness, prevention, response, and recovery remains at the forefront of its service, guided by core values of service, character, competency, and collaboration. — 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘂𝘀𝗲.
