This trip was filmed before the recent news events. Day 3 of my solo road trip in Mexico was easily the most intense day of the entire trip. From ancient Mayan ruins to natural cenotes to one of the most colorful towns I’ve ever seen, I drove over 6 hours in a single day. It was physically exhausting, mentally demanding, but completely worth it. Before coming, I wondered if driving long distances alone in a non-English-speaking country would be overwhelming. Turns out — it was challenging. But finishing a day like this gives me a kind of satisfaction that only comes from doing something slightly beyond my comfort zone. The biggest surprise wasn’t the famous landmarks — it was Valladolid. I only planned to stop briefly, but the town was so clean, vibrant, and relaxed that I ended up sitting in its central park eating churros, just watching daily life unfold. For a moment I almost felt surreal:mHow did I end up here, alone, on the other side of the world, doing this? That’s the magic of solo travel — you keep running into versions of your life you never planned. Sometimes the best strategy is simply: start first, figure it out later. ⸻ 📍 Route of the Day • Chichén Itzá — listened to a guided explanation of the Mayan civilization • Cenote Ik Kil — watched people swim and cliff jump (it was so hot I I almost joined) • Cenote Suytun (missed) — longer drive than expected + closed at 5pm → skipped → Realization: seeing one great cenote is enough • Valladolid — wandered through colorful streets • Parque Principal — finally had the churro I’d been craving (a bit expensive but worth it) ⸻ Unexpected Lessons from Today • Always remember where you parked when driving abroad/in an unfamiliar place • Yucatán is one hour behind Cancun — learned this while driving back • Doing the hardest driving day early in a trip actually makes the rest easier ✅I will continue to upload this solo road trip in Mexico series. Stay tuned :)
