Flaming Gorge Reservoir is a premier fishing spot in the West. Spaning the borders of Northern Utah and Southern Wyoming this gem is damned atop the Green River. It's jaw dropping cliffs, red rocks, and wild deep rock formations have anglers going nuts to get back out there as soon as possible. Swimming in it's depths are some of the most saught after monster Lake Trout (Mackinaw) that get up to 40lbs in these waters. Also home to some monster common carp of similar size, abundant rainbow trout, burbot, kokanee salmon, cutthroat trout, smallmouth bass, brown trout, and channel catfish. Most anglers at the Gorge like to take the boat out deep and jig the depths for those monster Lakers. However we are young and poor (so please like and subscribe) so we fish from the shore. People most commonly would have success throwing out powerbait, chubb meat, or nightcrawlers off the bottom. We prefer to fish with artificial lures generally rather than cast it out and wait. We found great success with rainbow patterned medium sized spoons with a slower retrieve and letting it sink deep and gradually raise throughout the column. Other success has been seen with white tube jigs tipped with chubb meat bounced off the bottom. On the fly rod the hot bite was on a red/black patterned chironomid about 3-4 feet under a bobber using the wave action. You can DM us for camping details if curious or for more information.
