Eric Paul Wheeler is a passionate gamer, a video-game historian, and curator for the National Center for the History of Electronic Games™, where he has spearheaded development of the nations largest and most comprehensive public collection of electronic games and game platforms. Electronic games are an incredibly important part of our culture. Over the course of the past four decades they have changed the way we learn, play, and interact with one another. Eric's role as curator of the collection is to document the history of this phenomenon, and to that end, has acquired nearly 20,000 artifacts that illustrate the impact these games have had on American life. The presentation focuses on key artifacts that revolutionized electronic game play—from Computer Space, the first arcade video game, to Nintendo Wii. A video filmed behind the scenes in the NCHEG lab provides the audience a show-and-tell session highlighting a few more of these artifacts.
