Paediatrician in Gaza describes unfolding catastrophe: “This is like nothing one could even imagine”

US paediatrician Tom Adamkiewicz, currently volunteering with MedGlobal in Gaza, told MEE that the humanitarian crisis unfolding is “like nothing one could even imagine.” He described children spiralling into life-threatening malnutrition due to a combination of hunger, contaminated water, overcrowding, and a lack of medicine. Adamkiewicz warned that skeletal children are already being treated in hospitals, and many more will follow if the food crisis continues. He highlighted the desperation of families, parents unable to feed their children, and young people being shot while trying to collect flour to prevent their siblings from starving. He also stressed the urgent need to evacuate children with treatable conditions, like heart defects, to nearby hospitals just hours away. These cases, he said, are being neglected due to political paralysis. He also called on regional leaders to act swiftly, warning that without intervention, the crisis will continue to escalate.
