In 1998 he moved back to Bamako full time. In 2003 they co-produced an album of traditional drumming called "Kara Bara" which includes their modern arrangement of the folksong "Yiriba Ye". Now 20 years later, in 2023, thanks to smart phones and video conferencing, they are producing another album mixing modern and traditional Malian styles with salsa, jazz, reggae and pop. The album will feature traditional Mande instruments such as balafon, African violin (sokou) and Ngoni. GRIOT MUSICIAN & FAMILY OF ARTISTS: Papa Zani and Linz both take inspiration from their parents artistry. Papa Zani grew up under the musical wing of his father, the Mali guitar legend Zani Diabaté of the Super Djata Band fame. Papa Zani wants to honor his father and wants people to know his father's musical legacy. Linz grew up in an artist family too. Her father is a woodworker and he made ashiko style drums with her mom Grace Schust. These drums traveled the world with Babatunde Olatunji, who was Lindsey's Godfather. Her mother is also a painter, singer, drummer, and an advocate of African and Caribbean music, bringing artists to rural schools in NH throughout the 80s and 90s. Lindsey continues in her family's tradition by using music as a cross-cultural bridge to promote peace and encourage creative collaboration. She also wants to promote the richness of African traditional music, dance and song, which are at risk of being lost to modern music and modern entertainment styles. #lindseyschust #papazanidiabaté #zanidiabaté #superdjataband #graceschust #worldmusic #afrobeat #musicforpeace #globalmusic #maliamericamusic #mali #newhampshire
