NHS Smoking Helpline — "Testimonials" (1999-2005, UK) [FULL CAMPAIGN]

My personal all time favourite PSA or PIF campaign, which had a whopping 17 different PIFs, both on TV & radio, across 6 years. The most famous of which are "Jak", "Janice", & of course, "Anthony Hicks". The campaign revolves around disturbing, real interviews with past smokers whose lives had been changed forever, some of whom died shortly after filming. As for the rest, sadly, it wouldn't be bold to assume that most of them have also died in the past 18 years following the campaign. They also filmed an interview with a young girl named Rebecca, the daughter of Steve, who had lung cancer from smoking. The interviews themselves are very depressing, with each smoker sharing their different, horrific experiences with the consequences of smoking, knowing that their lives will most likely never be the same as it was before, or that they don't have much time left to live at all. In my opinion, this is the greatest PIF campaign of all time. It's not necessarily the scariest, but by god, it is the most powerful & depressing by a long shot. Its also one of the most effective, knowing that these were real people, who really smoked, who really had cancer, & for some of them, who really died. It's an incredibly haunting campaign. The only reason this campaign wasn't at the top of "Top 100: Public Information Films II" (Which you can check out here:    • Top 100: Public Information Films II  ) is because that list is based on how scary, effective AND powerful the entries are. If I ever did a "Most Powerful PIFs" video, this campaign would top it. – CAMPAIGN NOTES – • Most of the earlier PIFs in the campaign aired through 2001, 2002 & 2003. The 2003 versions of "Nicholas" & "Colleen" displayed an ending note to say that they had died. • "Charles" aired through 2001, 2002 & 2003 as a part of the Testimonials campaign. It first aired in 1997, originally with the tagline "Still dying for a fag" in 1997 & 1998. (For any Americans watching, "fag" is often used as another name for a cigarette in the UK & Ireland) • "Rebecca" originally aired in 2002 & 2003, however the source video I found on Vimeo suggests that it re-aired around 2010 with the early 2010s Smokefree graphics at the end. In this video, I used the 2010 version, however I replaced the ending with the original smoking helpline graphic. • There was another PIF from this campaign interviewing 90s American supermodel Christy Turlington, which aired in 2001.
