It pits two major alliances against each other: the Prussia and Great Britain coalition and the France, Austria and Russia coalition. The war begins with Prussia's preemptive invasion of Saxony. This action immediately draws Austria into the conflict. In 1757 the pre war coalitions brought in the other states' armies onto the central European battlefield. Austria's main goal is to reclaim the province of Silesia, lost to Prussia in the previous war. France aims to capture Hanover, a territory belonging to the British monarch, which in turn brings Great Britain into the fight on the side of Prussia to defend Hanover. Russia seeks to curb Prussia's growing power and expand its influence in Poland and the Baltic areas in Prussia. Prussia's primary objective is national survival, which means holding onto its starting territories and, ideally, capturing Saxony. The game also has a special mechanic for Russia's Empress Elizabeth's Survival and the Succession to Tsar Peter III, giving a reversal in Russia's allegiance, and switching sides to Prussia.
