Extra Terrestrials is one of the rarest and most mysterious games ever released for the Atari 2600, launched in 1984 during the aftermath of the infamous video game crash of 1983. Developed by Skill Screen Games and published in extremely limited quantities, the game was sold door-to-door in Southern Ontario, making original cartridges highly sought after by collectors today. Its release was largely overshadowed by Atari’s earlier and much more notorious E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, which often causes confusion between the two titles. In Extra Terrestrials, players take on the role of an alien navigating a series of maze-like environments on Earth. Viewed from a top-down perspective, the goal is to collect candy scattered throughout the maze while avoiding capture by a human ranger. The game introduces an unusual and engaging two-player mode: one player controls the alien using the left controller, while the second player controls the ranger with the right controller, creating a tense cat-and-mouse chase. The alien must explore the maze, score points by eating candy, and ultimately locate an invisible friend to win the game. Successfully completing this objective triggers a victory tune, signaling the end of the pursuit. Players can choose between different alien characters using the SELECT switch, while the simple joystick controls keep the gameplay accessible yet competitive. Despite its simple presentation, Extra Terrestrials stands out due to its historical significance, extreme rarity, and unique multiplayer design. This gameplay video showcases a fascinating piece of Atari 2600 history that represents both the creativity and chaos of the early 1980s video game industry. #vaultofpixels #atari #atari2600 #extraterrestrial Playlist: • Atari -- 2600
