In the second episode of Delhi Neighborhood Eats, we’re diving into a Dhaba Trail right in Connaught Place. Among the modern, glitzy eateries here, a few old favorites still hold their ground, staying true to their roots as humble dhabas. These spots may lack frills, but they serve authentic, flavorful food that keeps loyal patrons coming back. Our first stop is Royal Restaurant in the Municipal Market. While they offer an elaborate menu, we tried a few standout vegetarian dishes: Shahi Paneer, Mattar Paneer, Arhar Dal, Soya Chaap Masala, Dal Makhni, Khoya Paneer, Ghiya ka Kofta, Nan, and Mattar Pulao. Each dish was packed with rich, comforting flavors. Next up is National Restaurant, also in the Municipal Market. Known for its bold, hearty non-veg options, we sampled their Gurda Kaleji (liver and kidneys), Kapoora (testicles), and Dahi Mutton. The unique flavors and textures of these dishes make them must-tries for anyone exploring traditional cuisine. At Bhape Da Hotel, a popular spot in the same market, we focused on their meat specialties: Saag Mutton, Brain Curry, and the rich, spicy gravy of their Butter Chicken. These dishes were as indulgent as they were delicious, and their bold flavors stood out. We then visited Kake Da Hotel, another well-known stop in the Municipal Market, where we tried their famous Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Curry, and Tandoori Roti. Known for its classic approach to North Indian flavors, this place is a true Connaught Place institution. Our last stop was Anand Restaurant in Scindia House. Here, we tried their Mutton Biryani, which they serve as rice with mutton curry—a unique and satisfying twist on the classic dish. One of the most interesting aspects of this experience was discovering that each dhaba had its own unique set of condiments, adding a personal touch to every meal.
