Air acrobatics. Frecce TRICOLORI. Bucharest International Air Show 2012 The Frecce Tricolori (Italian, literally Tricolour Arrows), officially known as the 313° Gruppo Addestramento Acrobatico, is the aerobatic demonstration team of the Italian Aeronautica Militare, based at Rivolto Air Force Base, in the north-eastern Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, province of Udine. They were formed in 1961 as an Air Force team, replacing unofficial teams that had been sponsored by various commands by the end of the 1920s.[1] The team flies the Aermacchi MB-339-A/PAN, a two-seat fighter-trainer craft capable of 898 km/h at sea level, with nine aircraft and a solo (the highest number of aircraft of any aerobatic team in the world).[1] The team's official name is: 313. Gruppo Addestramento Acrobatico; Pattuglia Acrobatica Nazionale (PAN) Frecce Tricolori. source: wikipedia.org The Italian National Aerobatic Team today, famous worldwide for quality aerobatic flying, is the result of the long tradition of high standards of professionalism, commitment and passion for flying which has always characterised them; remaining faithful to the high standards of discipline and team spirit, distinguishing their triumphs in the past and continuing to set them apart. 2012 is a significant year for the Aerobatic team, as it marks the 30th anniversary of the union between the Frecce Tricolori and the MB 339 PAN. This year is a milestone in many ways, both for the team and the aircraft. The anniversary is the celebration of the extraordinary bond between man and machine. Every pilot in the Aerobatic Team has a unique relationship with his plane, which is never seen as a cold, inanimate, operative tool, but rather as a faithful friend who can be depended on to perform the most daring aerobatic feats and to proudly carry the Italian flag into the skies of the world. source: http://www.aeronautica.difesa.it Military aerobatics as a group began in Campoformido, home of the 1st Wing, by the end of 1920s. Chief Commander, Col. Rino Corso Fougier was the pioneer in aerobatic group flying in Italy. He persuaded the General Staff of the former Royal Air Force that a perfect military pilot could fly most efficiently in combat only mastering his aircraft, and knowing deeply all its features, with sensibility and control at all times. Since then, many Fighter Wings gave birth to training or demonstration teams for the most important shows in Italy and abroad. Many of us still recall names like "Cavallino Rampante" (Rampant Horse), "Getti Tonanti" (Thunder Jets), "Diavoli Rossi" (Red Devils), Tigri Bianche (White Tigers) and "Lanceri Neri" (Black Lancers), names that have become legend. In 1961the Air Force General Staff decided to form a unique aerobatic team with the best men available. In Rivolto, Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, under the experienced leadership of Major Mario Squarcina, the 313th Aerobatic Training Squadron "Frecce Tricolori" was established. Today a team of nine aircrafts and a solo, form the most numerous aerobatic team in the world, also regarded as one of the most prestigious. Since the beginnig, the Frecce Tricolori were welcomed by the generous people of the Friuli Region as part of their society. Those people still join all successful shows with pride, always offering an unconditioned support. source: http://www.freccetricoloriorologi.it
