Kampot Salt Fields I Attraction in Kampot Province

The salt fields are close to the ocean they’re about 10 km from town on the road from Kampot to Kep. Now I will explain the process of how the farmers collect the salt. First the farmer has to clean the land and rake it smooth and level, they then have to pound it repeatedly to make it compact, if they miss this step then when they try to collect the salt a lot of mud will come with it. After they have finished this step, the farmers pump water from the ocean into the big pools, small quantities of which are then drained into the prepared salt fields. After three or four days in the hot Cambodian sun the water is evaporated and only the salt remains. The farmers collect the salt and then drain more water from the big pool to repeat the process.
