Billie wasn't supposed to survive. And she definitely wasn't supposed to have a baby. After losing her lung to a rare pneumonia that liquefied the tissue, Billie found herself physically dependent on an abusive partner. At her lowest point, she was living in a closet—struggling with addiction and estranged from her family. "I had been married for 12 years and couldn't conceive. Then I found out I was pregnant while I was at the shelter. I was shocked." With only one lung, doctors said she might not survive the pregnancy. But Billie became the first guest at The Joseph Center's new Family Center for unhoused moms and moms-to-be. Through a brutal pregnancy filled with ER visits, morning sickness that never quit, and the uncertainty of it all—she had people who believed in her. "This little bundle of joy was kind of like the Band-Aid that brought my family back together again." Now, Billie lives on her 88-year-old grandpa's farm with baby Malachi, rebuilding the relationships addiction had broken. She's proud of herself for the first time in her life. "I'm better mentally now than I have been throughout my life. Everything has worked out and put me on a path that I wouldn't have expected, but I'm very thankful for." This is what restoration looks like when you have community acting as a bridge. 🔗 Learn more about the Family Center: josephcentergj.com 🔗 Share your story: https://forms.gle/aQZRYokrT7YK8GFL9 🔗 Support moms like Billie: https://josephcenter.harnessgiving.or...
