Going to cover the origins of the classical piano layout that all of us know, why its not an isomorphic keyboard, and why it would be better if it was. After that, I will also show the transition from the classical piano layout to the Janko layout as a series of connected steps, to show that its not really that different, and yet provides some much needed features that help with making the keyboard a more intuitive instrument. And dont worry - I will finish with the list of downsides as well. Introduction: same as 0:teaser. Project discussion forum: https://pianoclack.com/forum/d/1825-d... Janko layout discussion forum: https://pianoclack.com/forum/d/1835-d... For those interested in more detail, here is a nice list of videos I found helpful when researching this topic: • Notation Must Die: The Battle For How We R... Notation must die: contrary to the title, this is a very good video explaining the origin of western music notation, along with a few somewhat funny, somewhat face-palming attempts to 'fix' its flaws. Make no mistake - I do no think music notation needs to change; but the history portion of this video is rather eye opening. • Explaining Jankó: The advantages of the Ja... Explaining the Janko Layout: one of a series of videos by the same author talking about the Janko layout complete with musical sections by clearly a professional player in front of one of the few acoustic Janko pianos. Its in German unfortunately, but the subtitles are good. • The Mathematical Problem with Music, and H... The mathematics of music: A more 'theoretical' approach to music which covers why some notes sound harmonious or disharmonious together, how this lead to the 12 notes of the western school of music, the different types of tunings (along with why every piano is sort-of out of tune). https://www.thejankoproject.com/ Rico Raven has been working on his own variation of a janko layout - yes, it looks drastically different, but actually no - its very close to a janko layout. There have been mentions of making and selling similar instruments for (relatively) cheap (so... around the cost of a digital piano), so if you are interested be sure to check it out. / @rico-raven Rico Raven's youtube channel - he has quite a few videos describing the layout, showing the various scales on it along with some improvisation.
