[ENGLISH VERSION] Association Anoulak: Thaphaibanh Nam Theun New Normal Crafting

Association Anoulak is a French association which is dedicated to biodiversity conservation in the Annamite Mountains. It has worked on supporting and co-designing with the villagers the value chain of their local handicraft. The Association and villagers are working together to seek alternative sources of income for the community by building on the traditional crafting skills of the villages and adapting to the market demand. The knowledge can be passed on to the youth and other villagers in the community, maintaining people’s culture and skills. Handicrafts will generate household income and eventually lead to the reduction of the dependence on nature. This is to contribute to the sustainable protection of biodiversity. There are 4 villages in Thaphaibanh area that Association Anoulak’s project has supported. The project of Association Anoulak has involved the villagers to practice more of the handicraft activity. Every product made by the villagers has been purchased by the project and has been marketed to be sold in big cities. Villagers have worked together with Association Anoulak to create a strategic plan to sustainably protect and utilize the natural resources from generation to generation, especially the handicraft’s material sources from the forests where they harvest bamboo, rattan and pandanus for the production. --- (c) Association Anoulak Video by Mr. Xaykhame Manilasith for Association Anoulak
