This is a line we've looked at previously in the opposite direction, in 2023. Since then, a few sections of double track have been opened in order to allow half hourly passenger services between St. Gallen and Sargans. The line is known as the Rheintalbahn or Rhine valley railway, not to be confused with the German Rheintalbahn north of Basel, which we've also looked at (   • ★ 4K 🇩🇪 Karlsruhe Gbf - 🇨🇭 Basel RB cab ri...  ). As the name implies, the line follows the Rhine river along Switzerland's eastern border to Liechtenstein and Austria,. In a previous video, we passed through a large portion of Austria and Liechtenstein to the border station of Buchs where we start today. (   • ★ 4K 🇦🇹 Graz - Selzthal - Innsbruck - Blud...  ). We're taking two locomotives to a tank farm to collect a train that has been emptied in Schwarzenbach and that's where our journey ends. We're travelling in Switzerland's legendary Re 4/4ᴵᴵ locomotives, one of which will be turning 60 this year. They are just as reliable as ever, but are in the middle of being phased out by the SBB.
