The gearbox in the Spyder has been very noisy and has been a source of vibration whilst driving. Initially I thought it was the differential and I found pitting on the pinion gear so I replaced the crown-wheel and pinion. I also changed the differential from a plate & ramp type LSD to a helical geared Quaife ATB. I also felt that the rear springs were too hard and they may have been causing the rear end to 'skip' under acceleration so I reduced the spring rates from 350 Lb/In to 225 Lb/In. I had the new parts fitted for the Golspie Sprint and the rear end skipping seemed to have been cured. However, the car was still noisy in first gear and on launching from the start line, on Sunday practice, the first gear lost (more) teeth which jammed into the laygear's teeth and broke the laygear, bent the layshaft, broke the reverse gear and broke the gearbox casing's centre web thus rendering the whole SCCR gearbox SCRAP! A new improved gearbox is on its way for the Forrestburn Hillclimb.
