FLG 5000 parachute drag testing with a dynamometer

Testing on September 2 of 2016 of the drag generated by a small parachute from a FLG 5000 illuminating rocket. The ground speed was monitored by a GPS and the airspeed by an anemometer. The GPS was positioned directly next to the dynamometer for a simultaneous reading on the GoPro footage. This is only one test. It was conducted many tests, in the wind, against the wind, and sometimes with almost no wind at all, in order to obtain an average value. It would have been possible to get much more precise data by using a high quality force gauge connected to a data acquisition system able to record at a rate of several thousands hertz, but that was judged unnecessary. To obtain a rough idea of the drag generated at a given speed was enough. During a next test will used a longer strap in order to reduce the turbulences on the canopy.
