Want more railtours? • Preserved Stock and Railtours Want more trains from Hornsey? • Trains at Hornsey (Ft. Royal Mail Class 325) Recording times: 15 February 2025: 12.42 → 13.05 Notices: Typically, the Belmond Pullman set would begin charter services from London Victoria Station due to it's proximity to Stewart's Lane Depot where it is maintained. However, possibly due to Victoria being partially under possession for engineering work on the day, it began its journey from London King's Cross Station. This necessitated the train to take an unusually circuitous route through north and west London. After departure its route involved reversing at Hornsey Signal K440 in order to access Camden Road Junction (North London Line), whereby it could then take Camden Junction and Willesden West London Junction (West Coast Main Line), before turning onto the Great Western Main Line at Acton Wells Junction and continuing onwards towards Castle Cary. Due to the testing of ETCS Signalling equipment in the Welwyn to Hitchin area, all lines from Potters Bar and Hertford North to Peterborough and Letchworth Garden City were under possession. A reduced timetable was brought into effect by Thameslink (TL) and Great Northern (GN). TL ran a half-hourly service from Brighton to Finsbury Park with an Empty Coaching Stock (ECS) extension to Bowes Park Reversing Siding due to the absence of practical turnback facilities at Finsbury Park. GN ran half-hourly stopping services from London King's Cross to Potters Bar/Hertford North, and a semi-fast service from London King's Cross to Potters Bar using TL Class 700 units, which made use of Finsbury Park Platform 5 and rarely used crossovers between the two slow lines at Potters Bar and the Down Fast and Down Slow lines at Alexandra Palace. North of Letchworth they also operated a half-hourly semi-fast service to King's Lynn and an hourly shuttle service to Cambridge, providing a rare movement for passengers over the crossover east of Letchworth Station.
