ISWAP Kills Commanding Officer, Others in Kukawa LGA

Suspected fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have attacked Kukawa Local Government Area, killing a Nigerian Army commanding officer, Umar Farouq, and several soldiers. Security sources say the troops engaged the insurgents in heavy gunfire and reportedly inflicted casualties on the attackers. However, the military base in Kukawa was burned during the assault, with weapons, ammunition, and several military vehicles either destroyed or seized. Separate attacks linked to Boko Haram and ISWAP were also reported in Goniri, Marte, Gajiran, Jakana, and Dalwa, leading to displacement and property destruction across parts of Borno State.
