After heading out to the Montebello Islands, one of the most remote and fish-rich areas off the coast of Western Australia, things went south fast. The boat got beached hard on beach with the tide dropping quicker than expected — and no way to move it. With zero reception and miles from help, I was stranded... ...until a stranger appeared out of nowhere — and what happened next saved my but. What followed was one of the most insane fishing days I’ve had in years. I landed red emperor, coral trout, and even a solid Chinaman fish — all in glassy conditions, surrounded by untouched coral reefs and raw, isolated coastline. 🌊 The Montebello Islands — Wild, Rugged, and Unforgiving Located around 120 km offshore from the Pilbara coast, the Montebello Islands Marine Park is one of Australia’s most unique fishing destinations. A labyrinth of reef, bommies, and island channels — this place holds serious fish, but it demands respect.
