(30 Oct 1995) English/Nat In his first public appearance in Serbia in more than a year, Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic attended a church service in Belgrade. Karadzic and other Bosnian Serb leaders went to Belgrade's Christian Orthodox cathedral to pray for peace ahead of crucial negotiations in the U-S on Wednesday. Leaders of the self-proclaimed Bosnian Serb state were presenting themselves as peacemakers at a service at the Belgrade Christian Orthodox Cathedral. Besides Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic, the service was attended by Vice President Nikola Koljevic, parliament speaker Momcilo Krajisnik and Foreign Minister Aleksa Buha. The Bosnian Serb leaders lit candles in memory of the war victims and prayed for a successful round of peace talks which open in Dayton, Ohio on Wednesday. Emerging from the service, Karadzic told reporters the Bosnian Serbs would accept a just settlement. SOUNDBITE: (in English) We do expect a just and honest solution. If the international community is interested in a long-lasting peace and stable Balkans, then the solution should be just and fair enough. (asked what he sees as minimum of demands) Freedom, equality, That's it. Any nation requires freedom equality and possibility for development." (whether he would insist on joining Serbia?) That is certainly our objective. We don't know whether we are going to insist on that this time, but one day, it will be. SUPER CAPTION: Radovan Karadzic, Bosnian Serb leader Karadzic, who has been indicted for war crimes, will not be travelling to the United States for the peace talks. Bosnian Serbs will be represented by Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic.
