Mill Valley, the backside of Stevens Pass, was originally served exclusively by Southern Cross, a 1987 CTEC triple chair. While the lift served more advanced and expert terrain well, the traverse to access the easier trails had many flat sections, and was quite arduous. Also due to the popularity and the fact there was more capacity going into the valley than leaving the valley, Stevens Pass decided to install another chairlift. Jupiter, a Garaventa CTEC quad, was built with its top station just above the top of Tye Mill, providing a much reduced traverse to the other runs. After just 20 years, as Stevens Pass was looking to update their older lifts, Jupiter was replaced with a high-speed quad in 2013. Despite how young it was, the old Jupiter chair was scrapped. Jupiter Express is a Doppelmayr high speed quad. It uses UNI-G terminals, ej chairs, and Agamatic grips. The lift reuses the tower tubes from the original lift, with small to large extensions added on the tops of the tubes.
