Starting Seeds for Fall in Zone 9b (Northern California) If you're in our zone, don't wait too much longer to start seeds! In Sacramento, our average first frost date is in December. So though we have some time yet, you don't want to miss the window (like we did last year). We decided to start more seeds this year than usual for our fall garden and whip out our portable greenhouse.
