Lin and Mei are joined by their new helper and candy expert, Marion, creating a design we picked from YouTube comments. The most popular suggested design in YouTube comments was a dog 🐕, so we decided on an Akita dog, which is a Japanese large mountain dog breed similar to the husky. The Japanese Akita is typically orange in colour, unlike the American Akita which has mixed coats in different colours. This breed became popular online because of Faithful Hachikō. From Wikipedia: ⚆ _ ⚆ “In 1924, Hidesaburō Ueno, a professor in the agriculture department at the University of Tokyo, took Hachikō, a golden brown Akita, as a pet. Ueno would commute daily to work, and Hachikō would leave the house to greet him at the end of each day at the nearby Shibuya Station. The pair continued the daily routine until May 1925, when Ueno did not return. The professor had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage, while he was giving a lecture, and died without ever returning to the train station in which Hachikō would wait. Each day, for the next nine years, nine months and fifteen days, Hachikō awaited Ueno's return, appearing precisely when the train was due at the station. Hachikō attracted the attention of other commuters. Many of the people who frequented the Shibuya train station had seen Hachikō and Professor Ueno together each day. Initial reactions from the people, especially from those working at the station, were not necessarily friendly. However, after the first appearance of the article about him in Asahi Shimbun on October 4, 1932, people started to bring Hachikō treats and food to nourish him during his wait.” (◕‿◕✿) Candylabs uses an old-fashion, old world process of making candy. They use no machines (beyond a stove to boil sugars) and make the candy by hand. Their candy is made with simple ingredients and comes in a huge variety of flavours --- we recently tried Pina Colada, for example. The flavour of this dog candy is tangerine, which is a mini-sized citric fruit like an orange. It takes us the entire day to film the process and Lin is very tired by the end of it as the huge piece of candy is very heavy. #akita #shibainu #dog #howitsmade #artisan #educational #candy #candymaking #vegan #montreal Amazon Links ~ 🐾Cute Akita Dog plush toy: http://amzn.to/2jyFmqu 🐾Doggo calendar for the new year! http://amzn.to/2BCa7Dp Music Credits ~ Earth Tones by Hpnotic718 Attribution 3.0 Unported (CC BY 3.0) / classic_earth-tones Fresh Smoke [ExtendedInterlude] by Hpnotic718 Attribution 3.0 Unported (CC BY 3.0) / fresh-smoke-interlude Standing Here by Silent Partner Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported (CC BY-SA 3.0) / standing-here Stereokroma ~ 。◕‿◕。 3 ways to support Stereokroma & our projects 🐾Buy us a coffee: https://www.ko-fi.com/stereokroma 🐾Buy art by Karolina: https://artkarolina.com 🐾 Buy merch from umami: https://umamimerch.com 00:00 Intro 00:20 Mixing Color 01:17 Hot Sugar on Cooling Table 03:11 Adding Citric Acid 04:18 Cooling Hot Sugar 05:30 White Sugar Pulling 07:16 Orange Sugar Pulling 08:02 Hand-Pulling Sugar 08:18 Making the Eye of the Dog 09:02 Making the Eyebrow of the Akita Dog 09:39 Turning 1 Eye into 2 10:27 Making the Akita Dog Nose 10:41 Making the Dog Mouth 11:30 Assembling the Facial Features 12:38 Wrapping the Face in Orange 13:00 Making the Dog Ears 13:40 Assembling the Head 13:55 Wrapping the Big Candy Roll 14:32 Stretching the Big Candy into Small Candies 15:38 Chopping into Small Candies 15:57 Outro © 2017 Stereokroma Creative Services G.P.
