An inward voyage into the heart of Pacific island culture—the canoe. Its significance in shaping the past, present, and future, and the lasting legacy of Mau Pialug, from the atolls of Micronesia to the shores of Hawai’i. ⛵ Please consider supporting Kanehunamoku Voyaging Academy: / kanehunamoku 🎤 Listen to the full interview on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3dJ3ui3... ——————————————————————————— In this first entry through voyaging, I begin with the canoe, as it is at the heart of Oceania's history, traditions, culture, and identity. This was confirmed in my interview with Captain Bonnie Kahapea-Tanner of Kanehunamoku Voyaging Academy. In this entry into Voices of the Pacific, we explore Captain Bonnie's journey in the voyaging world, including her work with the late legend Mau Pialug, the master navigator from Micronesia who revived voyaging traditions in Hawai’i and across the Pacific. We also delve into how voyaging today helps unite all aspects of identity and culture, both through community and the challenges faced along the way. For me, the journey into the world of voyaging began in Hawai’i with a reverse migration voyage across the islands, eventually reaching Micronesia. This helped connect the literal dots of islands and canoe evolution, offering a deeper understanding of the Pacific. Thank you, Kanehunamoku, for opening the door to this voyager and the mission of One Ocean, One People. ——————————————————————————— TIMESTAMPS: 1:04 - Meet the Captain | "What is the MAGIC of the Ocean?" 3:30 - Mau Pialug and the Canoe’s Significance 5:15 - Captain’s Voyage to Micronesia with Mau Pialug 6:25 - What it Means to Be a Navigator Today 8:03 - Micronesia and Hawai’i: Then & Now 10:22 - One Ocean, One People 13:05 - Mau's Legacy & Closeout ——————————————————————————— 🙌 Please consider SUPPORTING One Ocean, One People: 🌺 GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/help-fund-an... 🙇🏻 Venmo: https://venmo.com/u/aperezvoyages🙏🏼 ⛵ Join me on Patreon: / aperezvoyages ***One Ocean, One People is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. ——————————————————————————— Also consider FOLLOWING me at: 📸 Instagram: / aperezvoyages 📘 Facebook: / aperezvoyages 📖 Check out my Blog:http://www.aperezvoyages.com 📌 This is just the beginning!
