An awareness of the underlying pulse was maintained throughout and the notation was played accurately, with secure integration of the ornamentation.The entries were clearly presented and there was a reasonable awareness of the harmonic structure, as demonstrated through the shaping of the phrases. The hands were well-balanced and the fingerwork was even. Marks: 7/7/7 = 21 (22) Piece 2: Schmitz: Progression | from Piano Exam Pieces 2021-2023: Grade 6 The tempo was well-chosen and demonstrated the rhythmic vitality of this piece. The pulse was mainly controlled and although the notation was accurate, some of the fingerwork lacked complete precision at times. The tone was well-focussed and the contrasts of articulation were included. Most of the musical details of the score were included, and the hands were well-balanced. Marks: 7/6/7 = 20 (22) Piece 3: Walsh & Shore, Arr. Podgornov: In Dreams (from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring) from Piano Exam Pieces 2021-2023: Grade 6 There was a good understanding of the relaxed style of this music and it was played with control and musicality throughout. The notation was accurate and the hands were well-coordinated. The tonal control was well-judged and contrasted as the musical journey progressed. The pedalling was effectively used and the dynamic range was explored with understanding. Marks: 7/7/8 = 22 (22) Technical Work: The Set A scales were played accurately and the required contrasts were included, although the scales in 3rds lacked an even legato control. The arpeggios were correct. The first exercise (1b) was played accurately with good balance between the hands. The second exercise (2a) was well-controlled with secure coordination. Marks: = 13 (14) Performance Delivery and Focus: The performances were delivered with assurance and focus was maintained throughout. The transitions between the items were well-paced. Marks: = 9 (10) Musical Awareness: There was a good level of commitment in this presentation and an individual musical ability to move between styles was well-developed.
