Georgia State Troopers Chase Dirt Bikes On Atlanta Streets

On April 11, 2021 at approximately 1659 hours while on patrol in the area of University Ave. and McDaniel St. TFC3 Tennant and I, Trooper Kammeraad, observed 3 dirt bikes traveling west that none of the drivers had helmets on. TFC3 Tennant and I activated our emergency equipment and attempted to stop the bikes. The 3 dirt bikes accelerated at a high rate of speed continuing west on University Ave. TFC3 Tennant informed the radio room that we were trying to stop the bikes. The bikes then traveled on the wrong side of the road up on to the sidewalk while turning on to Metropolitan Pkwy. I attempted to stop the bikes from traveling down the sidewalk south. The driver of all three bikes then made an illegal U-turn weaving in between cars and started traveling north on Metropolitan Pkwy. TFC3 Tennant was the lead car pursuing the bikes. We informed the radio room that we were in pursuit of the 3 dirt bikes. One driver turned left on to Catherine dr. failing to stop for any stop signs. The driver then made a left on to Mayland St. TFC3 Tennant was able to get his patrol vehicle in front of the bike and slow it down to where the bike was unable to continue straight. I then was able to block off the rest of the road with my patrol vehicle so that the bike was not able to travel back down Mayland St. The driver of the bike was able to get the dirt bike on to the sidewalk before he surrendered to myself and TFC3 Tennant. The driver was taken into custody and was identified as Cavario Hunter by his GA driver’s license. Mr. Hunter was secured in the rear of TFC3 Tennant's patrol car and was transported to Atlanta Pre-Trial. Mr. Hunter was turned over to Jail personnel without incident. Mr. Hunter was charged with Fleeing or Attempting to elude, Reckless driving, Too Fast for Conditions, No Tag, No Insurance, Not wearing a helmet, Improper Turn, Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device, and Driving on the wrong side of the roadway.
