In the early fall of 2024, we had the permits. Gear packed. Batteries charged. Crew ready. Then the devastating flood came. A week or two before we were supposed to descend, the canyon shifted the plan. We pivoted to another adventure, but Havasupai stayed in my head like a film I hadn’t finished shooting. Fortunately the Supai Tribe honored our 3-day permits, and in May we finally made our first descent into the canyon. Rain threatened us yet again. Grey clouds rolling across red rock, forecasts full of uncertainty. But this time, the trail stayed open. And then I saw it for the first time. That turquoise blue. Dropping into the Havasupai Reservation feels unreal when you’ve only seen it in photos or video even. The first roar of Havasu Falls doesn’t sound like a waterfall —it sounds like arrival. Climbing down beside Mooney Falls, hands on chains, camera strapped tight, trying to stay composed while your heart rate spikes, that’s the kind of moment you don’t forget. Hiking out to Beaver Falls, red desert canyons, vibrant greenery, in tune with turquoise colored water, felt like stepping inside something mythic. Three days. Heavy packs. And the kind of color palette that makes you question reality. This wasn’t redemption, it was introduction. Our first time inside a place we’d almost lost the chance to experience. Our deepest gratitude and appreciation goes out to the Supai Tribe. As part of Team Ep.ic, I get to move through these landscapes with a crew that feels like a traveling expedition unit. But on this channel , you’re getting it through my lens — the pacing, the tension, the quiet moments between the big cinematic ones. If you’re into cinematic backpacking films, Havasupai hike 2025, Arizona waterfall adventures, Grand Canyon region travel, desert and backcountry backpacking documentaries, and immersive outdoor storytelling — welcome aboard. This is the Spring Havasupai chapter. The one that almost didn’t happen. The one that made the wait worth it.
