Find your materials. What you'll need: 1. Select a pot that fits your style. Make sure there is a drainage hole. Amaryllis like to be cozy in their container. We recommend choosing a pot that leaves around an inch of space around the edges of the bulb. Step One: Fill your pot half-way with fresh, well-draining soil. Step Two: Grab your Amaryllis bulb. It should be firm and dry. Step Three: Place your bulb in the center of the pot and bury two-thirds of it in soil. Leave the top one-third exposed. Pack the soil loosely around it. Step Four: Water your Amaryllis thoroughly, ensuring the excess water drains away. Be sure to avoid wetting the portion of the bulb that is above the soil. Find a sunny spot indoors for your plant to bask. As the stalks grow, turn the pot every few days to encourage the plant to grow straight. Continue to water sparingly when dry and fertilize your Amaryllis regularly. Depending on the variety, once potted, it can take 4-6 weeks or up to 8 weeks for Amaryllis to bloom. Once bloomed, move your plant away from direct light and keep it in a cooler location.
