As part of the Just Future Project, Cordaid Burundi focuses on two components: access to justice, and participation in inclusive peace. For the access to justice component, Cordaid aims to enhance the accessibility, responsiveness, and accountability of justice institutions to ensure that everyone can access justice. For access to justice, several strategies have been implemented, including organising citizen meetings to enhance civic space. It is a space created where the authorities respond directly to questions from litigants. The programme also strengthens formal and informal mechanisms for peacefully resolving conflicts through training and regular monitoring of the councils of notables. Their efforts significantly impact the disputes reported to the courts. For the Participation and Inclusive Peace component, Cordaid aims to enhance the inclusive participation of marginalised communities in decision-making processes. The advocacy strategy facilitates the involvement of civil society organisations in developing or adapting specific laws, as well as the involvement of women, youth, and individuals with special needs in creating, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating Communal Community Development Plans and Annual Budget Work Plans. Advocacy through the programme has strengthened the capacity of leaders from women's organisations, youth, and special needs groups in lobbying and advocacy techniques. Civil society organisations, community-based organisations, and marginalised groups are now empowered to collaborate and influence the implementation of mechanisms, laws, and policies that enhance community access to justice and are gender-sensitive. The project also introduced the Umuhivu w’Imboneza advocacy platform, which comprises women's local organisations. Members have been trained in advocacy and conflict resolution, enabling them to address community disputes and raise awareness about inclusive decision-making. The project has strengthened community organisations and local platforms, enhancing access to justice and conflict resolution. Participants emphasised the importance of sustaining this work to maintain progress and tackle ongoing challenges in Burundi. --- Cordaid is an internationally operating emergency relief and development organisation, working in and on fragility. www.cordaid.org/en Facebook: cordaidEN Twitter: @cordaid Instagram: @cordaid_international LinkedIn: company/cordaid
