In the hills of Rugombo, Burundi, a community-driven transformation is taking place. Through the Rural Resilience Project, local people are reclaiming their land, protecting the environment, and creating new opportunities for the future. From digging anti-erosion trenches to planting reeds and calliandras, these communities have learned to fight soil erosion and make their hills habitable again. Once seen as an inconvenience, the project has become a source of pride and progress, teaching villagers to identify risks, plan local responses, and take collective action. 💧 33 kilometres of anti-erosion trenches have been completed on the hill of Kilamilla alone, making once-barren slopes fertile and livable. 💪 Youth are earning income through community work and starting small businesses. 👩🌾 Women are improving nutrition for their children and joining savings groups that help them fund new livelihoods like carpentry and farming. 🌳 Families are planting trees, managing runoff water, and building true resilience against climate change. Implemented by Response Burundi, in partnership with the international Cordaid, this project shows how local action and global collaboration can create lasting change. --- Cordaid is an internationally operating emergency relief and development organisation, working in and on fragility. www.cordaid.org/en Facebook: cordaidEN Twitter: @cordaid Instagram: @cordaid_international LinkedIn: company/cordaid
