Vocal: Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna Violin: Purnachander Rao Mridangam: Dandamudi Ramamohana Rao Live at The Music Academy, Madras on 1st January 1978 for the 1977 Margazhi music season. Concert list- (To be updated after the premiere) Listen to a lovely concert by M Balamuralikrishna from 1978, with his voice as well as aesthetics in full form. I have always held the opinion that the best phase of BMK's music was from the late 50s to the early 90s, and that he was at a peak especially in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Through these years, while his musical acumen and brilliance never changed, his approach to music and performance varied immensely. If the 80s showed him at his maverick best with throat jugglery that never compromised on Ragam, the 60s showed a more delicate, conservative and traditional style, with his individualism still shining but still more conforming (relatively) to the conventions of the music of that age. The 70s were a transition between these two phases of his music which is what endears the concerts from this phase to me. I shall update this description in a more detailed manner with my own observations and notes after the premiere. I would encourage the listeners to comment and share their own thoughts about the music presented. Sincere thanks to Jayram Sataluri and Raju Asokan for sharing these recordings.
