Advantages of Feeding Calf Milk Replacer (CMR) ✅ Lower Cost – More economical compared to saleable milk (depending on market price). ✅ Biosecurity – Reduced risk of disease transmission (e.g., Johne’s disease) versus unpasteurized milk. ✅ Consistency – Uniform nutritional composition compared to mixed transition milk from cows at different post-calving stages. How to Prepare CMR – Step by Step Step 1: Heat 7 liters of clean water to 45°C – 55°C. Step 2: Add 1 kg CMR powder to the heated water. Step 3: Stir thoroughly until fully dissolved, ensuring the mixture cools to an optimal drinking temperature of 38°C – 40°C. Important Mixing & Feeding Guidelines Always use fresh, clean water for preparation. Clean all feeding equipment daily with warm water (40°C). Avoid sudden switching from milk to CMR or between different CMR products. Ensure calves have access to fresh drinking water — stop water & feed 30 min before CMR feeding, and offer again 1 hour after. Keep calves in small, uniform groups. If using nipples, follow the ratio 1 nipple for every 3 calves (height: ~70 cm). Monitor dissolving temperature and mix thoroughly for consistency. Always feed at body temperature (38°C – 41°C).
