Individuals with Tourette’s and persistent tic disorders have a very high frequency of having ADHD or symptoms related to ADHD. Talking about what all of those may be is a bit longer than what I aim for in this video, but maybe we can try talking about it later? In this video I talk about two things: 1) Difficulties with maintaining focus on one train of thought and the frustration that comes with it 2) How you can help an individual (child or otherwise) learn to be confident in their ability to get through those moments with less stress and more success It really is a simple thing to do (meaning it is not complex), but that doesn’t mean it is an easy thing to do. If you’re talking with someone who struggles with this, notice your own urge to finish their sentences or thoughts, your desire to help them, and instead channel that to giving them time, space, and your patience so they can do it themselves. The more often a person successfully finishes it on their own, the more confident they may become that they can do that. That helps detach some of the stress, which enables them to be more successful with it in the future.
