In this series I am creating samples of geopolymer woodcrete. As the name suggests, this is concrete where the aggregate consists of wood chips. There are several reasons for exploring this alternative building material, which is similar to hempcrete: 1. Wood sequesters carbon and is renewable 2. Wood chips are sourced from recycled off-cuts used in construction 3. Wood helps to regulate moisture and vapor drive 4. Wood is much lighter than sand and gravel 5. Sand and gravel aggregates, believe it or not, are in short supply in some parts of the world 6. Woodcrete, with it's abundant voids, is more insulating than OPC concrete - similar to hempcrete, it can have an R-value of 2-3 per inch compared to 0.1 to 0.2 per inch for OPC concrete Mixing up the woodcrete!
