You’ll want to use a product designed to lift and break the bonds of the droppings away from the paint for easy removal, so there’s minimal wiping. Today, we’ll use Goo Gone Automotive, which can be purchased at your local O’Reilly Auto Parts or OReillyAuto.com. Now for wiping, be sure not to use paper towels or napkins. These are too abrasive, and may end up leaving scratches. It’s best to use a microfiber towel. These towels are soft and gentle on painted surfaces, minimizing the risk of scratches, so they can be used for a variety of detailing jobs. First, move your vehicle out of the heat or direct sunlight to slow the bonding of the droppings to the paint that make it harder to remove. Next, apply the Goo Gone liberally to the bird dropping area and let it soak for a couple of minutes to loosen up its bond to the paint’s surface. If it’s on the side of the car, hold your microfiber towel under it to catch any excess cleaning solution. After the Goo Gone has soaked in, it’s time to wipe. Allow the microfiber towel to do the work by applying minimal pressure so you don’t press any small rocks or seeds into the paint. If the droppings are on the horizontal body of the vehicle, you can lay the towel over it, and use a light pinching action to pull up the rocks and seeds, so they aren’t dragged across the paint. Then finish wiping away what’s left using a clean side of the cloth with each wipe. If the droppings are on the side of the vehicle, it’s best to wipe up and attempt to lift away, again minimizing the drag of any hard debris against the paint. The main thing is to be gentle and always use a clean side of the cloth with every wipe. And that’s it. You’ve got a clean vehicle, free of bird droppings, without paint damage.
