"This house was my first residential project, where I aimed to incorporate concepts that I believe are fundamental for a good design. Prioritizing the best view and morning sun, the house is an East-oriented pavilion, allowing all areas to benefit from optimal natural light. The north facade features a large concrete floor that shields the house from the afternoon sun and provides street privacy. In addition to the large glass frames, the house boasts numerous roof openings in the form of skylights and pergolas. Skylights bring light to more private spaces, and the pergola plays a crucial role in the project as a circulation axis connecting from the entrance to the opposite side of the building. A second pergola illuminates the garden behind the stairs, creating a sense of depth where the house is already at the edge of the plot. This way, we harness natural light throughout the day, creating a spacious and open atmosphere without exposing the residence to neighbors. From the house's entrance door, which unfolds into a hallway with a green wall and pergola roof, there are no doors dividing the social spaces. The ground floor of this house is a large open space where all rooms, including the kitchen and laundry area, are accessible and visible. This allows for various design configurations, providing the resident with the opportunity to use this space in diverse ways. The client's idea was to have an indoor balcony where, on any given day, they could enjoy this place regardless of the weather. To address this, we created a large pergola in front of the room and enclosed the frames in front of it. On rainy days, the doors can be closed, and the pergola used as an indoor space, creating a room-balcony. The choice of materials was considered from structural design to finishing. I intended for the house's structure to be apparent, already revealing the final face of the project. The form is a large concrete block supported by structural stone walls. The metal structure and glass provide the finishing touch, creating spacious areas and adding brightness to the building.
