Should I Increase My Thyroid Medication?

The typical scenario is someone gets diagnosed with hypothyroidism, they are still symptomatic even after being prescribed medication, and their doctor’s first action is to then increase the dose. The problem is that by flooding the body with more T4 than it needs, it actually reduces the conversion of T4 inside the peripheral tissues. So while your TSH might be driven down and your labs may look normal (or even hyperthyroid), you may experience mixed symptoms of hyperthyroidism in the brain and hypothyroidism in the rest of the body.
