In 2024, Helene brought catastrophic inland flooding, extreme winds, landslides and numerous tornadoes to North Carolina. Some parts of the state saw up to 30 inches of rain. More than 100 people died in North Carolina, and it was the deadliest hurricane since Katrina in 2005. WCNC Charlotte shows how the spirit of western North Carolina is strong.
