We all remember the events of September 27, 2024 when Hurricane Helene reshaped the landscape of our region forever. In Bristol, we consider ourselves truly blessed to have not seen nearly the level of devastation experienced by our neighbors all around us. It cannot be overstated that every single City department was engaged in some form of response to Helene, both on the day of the storm and the weeks and months that followed, and it would be virtually impossible to share all of those stories. Far more than this are the countless stories of community members who continue to give of their time, energy, and resources to help their neighbors in need. There is one story, however, that actually took place more than 40 miles from Bristol - a story that received national attention, though that many still don’t realize had a direct Bristol connection. We are pleased to share this story here in the words of those who lived it. #hurricanehelene #hurricane #flood #firefighter #rescue This film may contain copyrighted material, the use of which has not been specifically authorized by the copyright holders. Under section 107 of the Copyright Act of 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include: (1) the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes; (2) the nature of the copyrighted work; (3) the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and (4) the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work. The material is incorporated into this film as a means to sequence the history of a nationally registered historic landmark, the Paramount theatre in Bristol, Tennessee. Through context and educational framing, the City of Bristol, Tennessee in association with the Paramount Foundation, therefore, creates a transformative use of copyrighted materials. The material is presented for entirely non-profit educational purposes and for the benefit of the public. There is no reason to believe that use of these materials will in any way negatively affect the market value of the copyrighted works. For these reasons, we believe this constitutes a “fair use” of any such copyrighted material as provided for in Title 17 U.S.C. Section 107. All copyrighted materials contained in this film remain the property of their respective owners. We do not support any actions in which the materials in this film are used for purposes that extend beyond fair use.
