Hello and welcome. In today's short video we would like to focus on another aviation legend. The Antonov An-2, which was developed by AT Simulation for the Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024. The AN 2 is the largest single-engine biplane ever produced. It was conceived and designed to meet a Soviet Ministry of Forestry request for a utility aircraft. The result was one of the most widely-used airplanes in aviation history. Due to its robust and highly-survivable design, adaptability, positive and responsive control at slow speeds, power, and load carrying ability, it was adopted for more than forty uses, from agriculture to military purposes. Over 18,000 AN 2 were manufactured over the course of its 45-year production run. Its ability to fly low and slow, while maintaining full pilot control, helped earn it the status of aviation legend. The An-2 was adopted in large quantities by both the Soviet Air Force and other Eastern Bloc forces. It first saw military use in the Korean War in the early 1950s. The Vietnamese People's Air Force was another prolific user of the AN-2; during the Vietnam War, the force occasionally used the type as an attack aircraft. During the Croatian War of Independence in 1991, several old An-2 biplanes, previously used for crop spraying, were converted by the Croatian Air Force to be able to drop improvised barrel bombs. They were also used for supply missions to the city of Vukovar and other besieged parts of Croatia. The main advantage of the An-2 was that it could take off and land on small or improvised airstrips. They were also often used to parachute supplies onto isolated garrisons. North Korea reportedly used a number of these AN-2s. The Korean People's Army Special Forces is known to use the An-2 to infiltrate paratroopers. It has been speculated that these aircraft could potentially be used in the event of war to ferry troops behind enemy lines for sabotage operations. The Antonov is powered by a 9-cylinder radial engine with a four-blade variable pitch propeller. With 1,000 horsepower, it has a maximum speed of 139 knots and a service ceiling of 14,800 ft. Its maximum range is 525 miles. According to the operating handbook, the An-2 has no stall speed. Pilots have reported that it is capable of flying the aircraft in full control at 35 knots. For the scenery we go to South West England, the area around Bristol has been greatly improved by the United Kingdom update. The farm strips are located within a small radius of the city of Bristol. Numerous details, such as animated people, hay bales, fences and signs. Small hangars with historic aircraft make the flight an experience. Some of the runways are so small and in the middle of a corn field that every landing is a fun challenge. The Antonov AN 2 is available in various versions, including skis and a float version as a seaplane. There are only a few liveries available as standard, but there are thousands of liveries available for free download in Flightsim.to. The price in the marketplace is between 10 and 13 dollars and for this model it is definitely worth it.
