Over this past Mother's Day weekend, I journeyed across the 49th Parallel to join the Fraser Valley Heritage Railway's opening weekend of their 2022 operating season, and after a series of regal festivities, set foot into royalty. That form of royalty you might ask? British Columbia Electric Railway #1304: the 1911 New Westminster-Built Interurban Tram famous for being pulled, restored, & altered to chauffer Prince Arthur: Britain's Duke of Connaught, along with the Duchess of Connaught, Princess Patricia, on their 1915 Canadian visit. Now, over a century later after the royal tour, and nearly eight decades after surviving a devastating fire forcing a rebuild altering her appearance, the Connaught Car now provides a regal experience back to the early 20th century. In this video, we will take a short journey from Cloverdale to Sullivan through the beauty (& sad flooding destruction) of the lower valley, as well as take a glimpse inside the car barn, where we find two other Interurbans, 1905 New Wes-built #1207, & one of two St. Louis-built 1912 Trams, 1231!
