By doing this, you collect a premium upfront in exchange for agreeing to purchase the stock at a specific strike price by a certain date. If the stock stays above the strike price, the option expires worthless and you keep the premium without buying the shares. If the stock falls below the strike price, you are assigned and buy the stock at that price, effectively getting in at a lower cost because the premium reduces your overall purchase price. This strategy is commonly used by investors who are neutral to bullish on a stock and wouldn’t mind owning it at a discounted price while generating income in the process.
